Summary:
Instructions on how to update Symantec AntiVirus using LiveUpdate

Description:
AntiVirus Software is required to be kept up-to-date with the most current protection against viruses. If the Clean Access Agent detects that your copy of Symantec AntiVirus is out of date, you will required to update it before accessing the network.

You are currently being placed in a Temporary Role with limited network access to perform the necessary updates. Depending on which updates are missing, you may be required to perform several reboots.

Q: I'm having problems using the LiveUpdate features in my AntiVirus program. Can I download them manually?

A: Contact the vendor of your specific antivirus product to obtain support with updates. Links to McAfee, Symantec, and TrendMicro are provided for your convenience.

Live Update Instructions:

  1. Double click the gold Symantec Logo in your Windows Taskbar. If necessary click "<<" to view the Symantec icon. (Figure 1.0)

  2. The Symantec AntiVirus screen will be displayed. Click the LiveUpdate button. (Figure 2.0)

  3. You will be presented with the LiveUpdate wizard. Click the Next button to continue. (Figure 3.0)

  4. A download progress bar will indicate the update status. (Figure 4.0)

  5. When the updates have been successfully downloaded, click Finish to complete the update process. (Figure 5.0)

Live Update Scheduling Instructions:

  1. From the Main Symantec Window, (Step 1) Click File and select Schedule Updates... (Figure 6.0)

  2. Click Schedule. (Figure 7.0)

  3. Select Daily. (Figure 8.0)

  4. Click Advanced. Check Perform update within plus or minus: and Click OK. (Figure 9.0)

  5. OK out of all the menus to confirm your schedule.

  6. Close the Symantec AntiVirus window, return to the Clean Access Agent and click Next. If there are additional steps that need to be take before you can access the network, you will be given instructions on what to do.
