Title:
Temporary Role Explanation
Summary:
Description of the restrictions placed onto a machine that has not met security requirements.
Description:
If you attempt to log onto ResNet, but do not meet the minimum security requirements, your computer will be placed into a Temporary Role. This will limit your network access drastically, protecting the rest of campus from potential security problems on your machine. Once your machine has met the security requirements and has been verified as safe, all network restrictions will be removed and you may access the network normally.
Q: The Cisco Clean Access Agent says I have "Temporary Access." What does that mean?
The Cisco Clean Access Agent will allow you "Temporary Access" if it detects that your PC does not meet the minimum security standards set for ResNet. The Agent will give you a link to a webpage that will describe why you did not meet the requirements, and will contain instructions on what needs to be done. Until the security requirements are met, your PC will NOT have full access to ResNet or the Internet.
What restrictions will be in place when my PC is in a Temporary Role?
- You will not be able to browse any websites, except those listed below in the "Exceptions" category.
- You will not be able to play any online games.
- You will not be able to use any Instant Messaging or chat software.
- You will not be able to access any files stored on the internet, online music, online video, etc.
- You will not be able to send or receive any e-mail or attachments.
Exceptions: websites and online services you will always have access to, even in Temporary Role.
