Guest Wireless Access

Summary:
Instructions for connecting to Georgia Southern's Wireless Network

Description:
Georgia Southern requires users to authenticate when connecting to the internal wireless network. If you are a guest user, these instructions will help you connect to our public wireless network.

Q: What is the difference between the two wireless networks?

A: The internal network requires each user to authenticate. Once authenticated, you can access resources behind the campus firewall (internal web servers, applications, network drives, etc.). The public wireless connection is for users who are visiting and do no have authentication credentials. These users cannot access internal resources.

To connect to the public wireless network, please follow these steps:
  1. Double click the Wireless Network Connection icon in your systray.

  2. Click View Wireless Networks.

  3. Select gsuguest from the list, then click Connect at the bottom of the page.

  4. After you are connect to GSUGuest, open a browser you will be directed to the GSUGuest portal page. If you have previously created a guest account you may log in now. If you have not, you should click Create Guest Account.

  5. Read the Guest user agreement and check the box. Click Continue.

  6. Select a username and password you would like to use. Passwords must contain 8 to 12 characters. Enter in your affiliation with Georgia Southern (parent, visiting student, etc.) and your email address. Click Continue.

  7. Once the account is created, you may log in. This account is valid for 30 days.

  8. Georgia Southern uses the Cisco NAC solution to help keep the network secure. An ActiveX or Java plugin will launch to check your machine. We currently require that all Windows security updates be installed before accessing the network.

  9. Once the check has been completed, you will be able to access the Internet.

  10. You should now be connected to the Georgia Southern Public wireless network. You can confirm this by viewing your IP Address. Public users should receive an address similar to this:
    IP: 141.165.242.100
    Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
    Gateway: 141.165.242.1
Get Firefox!
